ABOUT ME

I am a Garnet Valley student in Career Development. I have been a student here since I was in ninth grade. Growing up, I lived in Northeast Philadelphia, which is an area much different to that of Garnet Valley. For example, the school budgets in Philly were so minimal that most sports and music programs got cut. I was not used to having classes that were not required for the completion of the curriculum. This career development class would have never been a possibility for me and I would have not been given the opportunity to learn what other CORE classes do not teach. After moving to Glen Mills, schooling was kind of hard for me at first here. It was so much harder than I would have ever expected and again, you also had the opportunity to take a wide variety of non-CORE classes. The process has been hard (even brutal) along with eyeopening considering this school made me realize what I want to be when I'm older: a lawyer. Not exactly sure what kind yet, but I am particularly interested in medical malpractice or corporate law.

Piggybacking off of my interests in law, I would like to move into my general interests. As a busy high school student, I don't really get much time to myself so my outside interests are few and far between since most hobbies I have somehow relate back to school. My first major interest is in debating. I have been on the debate team at school since I was in ninth grade and I found my love for debating (and debating well if I do say so myself). Aside from debating, I like to play violin and sing in the chorus. I also enjoy partaking in activities like science fair and history day while also submitting short stories (and one long essay) I have written into local contests.

With these interests, I hope to generate results that contribute to my goals in life. With all the practice with activities that relate directly to my career goal, I like to see it as practice for the real deal. The development of my skills can help make my career easier in the future and make it more of a skilled routine rather than a guessing game that either could go my way or may not. My biggest goal right now is to get into Penn State University as a history major--or a political science major--in order to begin the process of following my dreams. After undergraduate, I do not have an idea for law school yet but that'll come to me eventually and I'll work towards that the way I am working towards this.
